A fine catch dragged up from the depths on the recent club trip to Westport, The wind and chop took a bit of the shine off the day but a very enjoyable day was had by all, A few Crays are heading for the pot and a couple of Blue cod were caught, along with a good assortment of the less desireable species. Congrats to TaS for taking the Top Boat flag for the largest Blue Cod.

The Rubbo boys went down to the Porarari river mouth at Punikaiki one day recently so the kids co
uld catch some herring and Harvey hooked this trout. It weighed in 3.63kg or 8lbs in old talk. We were using mussel for bait and hooked it about fifty meters from the bar. It took about fifteen minutes to land. I had a look in it’s stomach expecting to see whitebait but instead found a crab.

The week’s weather was great everyone was so excited that the conditions looked like they were going to be perfect for the Clubs annual King Kahawai Competition on the Grey River on Sunday 31st January, the day dawned sunny but windy. The early bird boaties on the day had a bit of a struggle to get their boats in the water as full time was not until about 12.30 pm and with the lagoon water depth so low a few boats had a wee sit on the sand bar.
